Punchdrunk Panda’s WHY
After talking about Punchdrunk Panda at our blogger hangout yesterday (post coming soon), and then watching this video when I got home, I was compelled to write this post. :)
Passion Forward
2011 was the year we really cemented our purpose or passion to collaborate with like-minded Filipinos to create functional graphic design and happiness-inducing events; to be an organization that showcases people pursuing their passions in hopes of inspiring others to do the same.
I’ve always felt that Punchdrunk Panda was more than just laptop sleeves or shoes. But before last year, I had a really hard time articulating exactly why I felt we were so special / important. I think in our earlier days, we wanted to think that somehow we contribute to society and change the world, as if any contribution was just a chance byproduct of the business.
But it feels a lot different when you build your business with that change in mind, first and foremost. Somehow, it makes you more driven to keep going even when times get really tough, and while I think all our efforts last year cumulatively helped us really create an inspiring, passionate Punchdrunk Panda community, I think the everything just came together at our first Anteroom Sessions last year (click here to read the Anteroom Sessions WHY). That made Punchdrunk Panda’s purpose so much clearer to me, that while we might be considered an apparel brand, our aim is not to be fashion forward, but passion forward. *badum tush!* (Lol. Thank you, Cebu Pacific, your cheesy puns inspired this!)
Even before Anteroom, in May last year, we also formulated our PdP-losophy, ideas & attitudes we live by at Punchdrunk Panda.
It’s been almost a year since I first wrote our PdP-losophy, and while we still hold the same values, some of the reasons we value them have evolved and become more profound for us, which I will be writing more of by April, after our upcoming Anteroom Sessions 2 on March 31, 4pm-11pm at Cubao X. :D
Striking a passion pose,
Jen
