Battambang, Cambodia: Picturesque in its Decrepitude
I love places that look old, worn, and beat up, and Battambang is just that kind of town. I haven’t taken so many pictures of a place as I have in one afternoon’s stroll through the streets of peeling buildings with battered wooden shutters in Battambang, Cambodia. :)
Vintage Suitcases: Repurposed and Glorified
I just love old and decrepit things.
I love that they’re not perfect.
Not brand new.
Not untouched and oh-so-spoilable.
I love that they have some story behind them.
Even when the story may not be such a pretty one.
Or even if I never find out that story at all.
I love that they’re worn out.
And that they look like they’ve had well-lived lives.
Yet carry on, with one purpose or another.
:)
See this other post for other repurposed vintage suitcases. :D

Some bits reminded me of the long, solitary walks I had in the older parts of Shanghai back when I stayed there for 5 months of Mandarin classes in 2007.
Other bits reminded me of Binondo - a popular Chinatown in Manila, Philippines.
Or just some other beautifully worn down parts of my own city, Manila, but have always been on wheels and too busy or in too much of a hurry to really notice things.
Battambang is one of those small towns that really encourage you to slow down, stop and smell not roses, but an occasional stink, but is alive with stories behind crackled paint and decaying “shabby chic” (sans the chic) windows and doors.
