Kidrobot x Swatch Launch @ Secret Fresh
Sept. 17, 2011
Two great brands collab to create some of the awesomest watches ever!
Upon learning about the Kidrobot x Swatch Launch at Secret Fresh, Nica and I immediately prepped a delivery of Punchdrunk Panda items for consignment at the store. :P We wanted to make the most of the crowd that would be attending the launch at Secret Fresh that Saturday.
However, upon delivery on Friday night, we felt that our display was lacking, so, straight from our Community Creativity Camp (CCC) run-through that Saturday, Nica and I decided to head straight to Secret Fresh at Ronac Art Center in San Juan.
We coaxed interns Patman & Jonver to come with us too, to both fix our display at the shop, and check out the Kidrobot x Swatch Launch (even though we were all in workshop / run-through outfits). :D
I personally love both Kidrobot & Swatch, and if one day, Punchdrunk Panda should be so lucky as to have a collab with either one of them (whether to design PdP vinyl toys or watches), I wouldn’t be able to contain myself.
Check out some pictures from the launch below. :)
KIDROBOT INC. x Swatch watchesss!!! *dies*
I’ve always loathed pink, but the design by MAD, I will definitely make an exception. Also love the Frank Kozic design (yellow)!

Bobby Benedicto’s Send-off Party @ Cubao Z
Sept. 9, 2011
Gotta love them house parties. Especially when you’ve got a a lot of great bands performing, like Ang Bandang Shirley, Tarsius, Ciudad, The Strangeness & Wilderness, a good amount of booze and some laughable Floptop Haiku Rap Battles.
Bobby Benedicto of Number Line Records was throwing a going away party before leaving for Berlin (he still didn’t have his visa at the time of the party, but he is actually either en-route or already at Berlin at the time of this post). It was nice to see a lot of the Anteroom Sessions artists there. :)
Selena Salang of Ang Bandang Shirley and Slow Hello told me about what a fun gig Anteroom Sessions was, and that it was a great concept. :D And I truly appreciate her for that even if she seemed to have a bit of buzz at the time we spoke. :P

The crowd during Ang Bandang Shirley’s set. Spot your back if you were there!

Tarsius setting up on these nifty modular wooden boxes. :P

You can’t see him but my boyfriend Karlo was going nuts (relative to his usual self) during Tarsius’ set. :P

With some other friends: Kitty, Reza, Ana, Karlo, Pepe, Kiyo & Jobelle

With long-time friend, Patrick Vinalay :D (Marcos, if you’re reading this, we miss you!)

Michael Benedicto of Outerhope

Pat with Kathy Gener of Attraction! Reaction!

Yiz, he be drunk. :P
That was that, and it was fun. :)
Hope Punchdrunk Panda can do some sort of collaboration with Bobby Benedicto of Number Line Records for future events, or maybe Number Line-inspired designs? :P Not sure if he plans to come back from Berlin or how long he intends to stay there though. Anyway.
Auf Wiedersehen, Bobby!
P.S. I tend to be OC, but my photo watermarks are not all uniformed in size or placed in the exact same spot of the photos. I only noticed a few weren’t at the very corner of the photo, but it’s too late in the night / too early in the morning for me to care at this point…it was 5:17a.m. when I posted the pictures on my personal Facebook account, and it is now 6:26 a.m. as I conclude this post. (I drifted off a couple of times in between). So yeah.
Martin Lindstrom @ SMX
Is your brand smashable? Do you have a sensory branding strategy? Is your brand conveyed to the consumer at every touchpoint? Can your brand be as strong as say (gasp!) a religion?
These are just some of the questions Martin Lindstrom raised in his talk last Sept. 8, 2011 at the SMX Convention Center. It left us business owners and marketers with points to ponder on and fueled us to think big ideas for our brands.
Martin Lindstrom is the author of Buyology, Brand Sense and his very soon-to-be-released book, Brandwashed (Sept. 20, 2011). He is a 2009 recipient of TIME Magazine’s “World’s 100 Most Influential People”, and is a trusted advisor for top executives in numerous Fortune 100 companies including McDonald’s Corporation, PepsiCo, American Express, Yellow Pages, Procter & Gamble, Microsoft Corporation, The Walt Disney Company, Unilever, Nokia and GlaxoSmithKline, amongst others. If that doesn’t impress you enough, you can read up on the rest of his accolades here.
I attended the event in the company of Mishi Chan of Quirks, and Beatrice & Lloyda Lim of Giordano Philippines, and Rachelle Chantong of HSBC.

I still owe my Punchdrunk Panda team a more comprehensive sharing on the things I learned, but some interesting tidbits I can share now are: (Note that these are reworded personal notes and not necessarily direct utterances by Martin)
- People are more emotional than rational. Yes, even if you really think you’re the latter.
- Focus groups do not really work because consumers don’t really know what they want.
- Powerful brands go beyond logos. Therefore graphic designers love brands who consider themselves powerful, and are therefore less likely to request for an increase in logo size.
- We can NOT multi-task. Although mostly everyone claims to be a multi-tasker.
- Strong brands are parallel to religion. And Apple truly is the strongest in the branding world.
- Live every aspect of your business in every touchpoint. Make your branding/brand personality known in everything consumer’s encounter from you/your brand (e.g. calling card, packaging, etc.)
- If people want you, they’ll want what you’ve got.
- 8-10AM is the best time to schedule newsletter blasts or brand suggestions/updates.
So there. These are a few points to consider, in both how we plan our branding, and how we plan our days and lives. :P
Having said that, after Martin’s talk, I visited Martin’s FB page and saw that he was running a contest for an online Google Plus symposium or webinar. He would only be giving out slots to the symposium to 10 lucky winners.
And if you’ve been following my posts, you’ll have seen this entry. :)
So anyway, hurrah hurrah for me! Go get his books! :P
Slap-me-silly September
Earlier today, I received a text message from someone asking if I had received her text a few days earlier. I replied by saying:
“Yep sorry wasn’t able to rep. Mustve reveived it at a time of hecticness which can aptly describe all of the past few weeks.”
You can attribute my shortened words, typos and lack of punctuation marks to the haste with which I replied to her.
Now, I am allowing myself to breathe a little, and somehow, I still have enough energy leftover from the day’s activities to take on blogging tonight. I really have amassed quite a backlog of entries, all of which I plan to post tonight.
Nica and I barely had time to recover from Punchdrunk Panda’s dare I say epic Anteroom Sessions last Sept. 3, then we had to jump back into a deep pool of work and attend to a lot of prep work for our upcoming Community Creativity Camp (CCC) this Sept. 24, which we’ve organized together with My Masterpiece Movement & Yabang Pinoy. We still had to attend to regular business operations like production (proofing prints, prototyping, etc.), accounting (which should be done at the beginning of the month but had to put off ‘til after Anteroom), and other regular business tasks like newsletters, shipments, consignments, etc. Whew. I don’t know how I managed to do it last year.
But yeah, I’m definitely really grateful that I have a team to help me run the business now, beginning with our operations manager Nica, and our dear interns Patman, Pat R. & Jonver, ex-interns Ritz & Joseph. Soon, the PdP team will grow even more once we welcome new interns, and add members to the core PdP team.
Without all these people to help me, I couldn’t have taken on some of the things I chose to take on for Punchdrunk Panda this year. So yeah, if any of you are reading this, I love you all. :”>
Anyway, I’ll be getting to some of my posts now before the grandmum in me gets sleepy. :P
